personal - GemStone IV Family Issues
Over the years I have been to so many weddings, festivals and other gatherings that have been no more than a footnote in my diaries.
I have decided to record these events from this time forward so that
there is a formal record for posterity. When memory fails, the written word
will prevail! On occasion, I will record my own feelings ( i.e.
those of Bremerial's alter ego) along with Bremerial's own thoughts.
NB: OOC - Any logs included will be published using notepad which should make the information accessible to most.

- Go to the transport room in the lands. (Premium)
- Use the Chromage travel system (Premium / Prime)
- Take the boat from Solhaven for which you will need (a) 40K in silvers (20K each way); (b) To go the locksmith and ask about a ticket; & (c) To wait at the dock for he boat. (The boat arrives frustratingly slowly (Premium / Prime)
- One silver pickle is good for one service from any merchant appearing at the festival during the festival.
- Non River Rest Citizens can use these for a service from a merchant.
- River Rest Citizens can use these to make a request of something for the town. To quote Xayle: If you ARE a citizen of RR, you can use the pickle to make a request for something for the town. Such as, "You totally need to update the food in the taproom. IT'S SO OLD!" And I say, DONE! Or you might say, "I want to build a HUGE STATUE to glorify my Restifarian Ranger," and I say, NOT SO MUCH! We're having to do this a little differently than we did last year as many of the requests made with the pickles were a little too much. I blame myself for that for not explaining better. Essentially it should be something that would be of benefit to the town, but not necessarily have your name (or anyone else's) written all over it. Like, the first time these pickles were released, way back once upon a time, one of the golden pickle holders requested a Voln outpost in the Rest.
ANNOUNCEMENT
Greetings and salutations one and all.
On behalf of Rosilina (our picklesmith apprentice), I'd like to invite you all to join her at the upcoming second annual Pickle Festival!
It will start on the 15th of Phoenatos (August) and last through the 24th. As with last year, there will be shops and games and contests!
Again this year, we will have a recipe contest and a pickle poetry contest.
Entries for the recipe contest MUST BE RECEIVED no later than August 1, as I'll still need time to whip up the dishes and such. Rules are the same as last year:
less than ten ingredients (a list of which you will have to provide), a name for your dish, at least one ingredient must be pickled (pickles, pickled rabbits toes, pickled eggs,
pickled pickles), and two taste messages for the dish. Email your recipes to me at my play.net address (gs4-xayle@play.net).
Poems do not have to be submitted, but will be performed during the festival and judged. No cussing, no nekkidness, no brothel-talk. Keep it River's Rest Tidy (which isn't especially clean,
but is still proper enough for general public consumption).
Can't wait!
So what is this festival about?
This is an annual Festival with its inauguration in 5113. The purpose of the festival is to celebrate all things pickle! There are games, merchants, shops, contests and if
you’re lucky, the occasional RPA. The festival is held over a week in Rivers Rest.
Access to the Rivers Rest
Access to the Festival Grounds
(1) Make your way to the locksmith to the southeastern part of the town.
(2) Take the path outside the locksmith shop
CONTESTS
Pickle Recipe Contest
The Recipe contest requires contestants to submit recipes in advance to enable the apprentice picklesmith to produce the food in preparation for tasting
and judging on the day of the contest. First, second and third prizes are awarded and there are recipe books handed out to participants. The books can also be purchased for 25K.
The food created is retained on a buffet table for the duration of the festival.
Pickle Poetry Contest
The poetry contest is open to all. As long as it is not offensive, then there are no rules per se, save one. It should be about pickles. There
are prizes for the top three.
GAMES
There are three notable games at the festival, located to the north. One is bobbing for
pickles. Another is the herring toss. The third is an old 'switcheroo' game . Each of the games requires silvers to
play, and the payment of silvers will allow each player a certain amount of
attempts at the specific game. There are rewards in the form of pickles, the most valuable of which are
the non-edible silver and gold pickles.
[GAME 1: - Bobbing for Pickles]
A small, rather shabby canvas tent has been erected in the middle of the otherwise tidy green lawn. The sharp smell of pickle brine surrounds the tent.
An old crone sits on a three-legged stool beside the tent flap. Beside the stool is a hand-painted sign. You also see an old crone and a path.

>read sign
In the Common language, it reads:
Grammy Plonk's Pickle Bobbing Extravaganza - 3 Attempts Only 300 Silvers! Pay the Crone.
Action: Search Vat
[GAME 2: - Herring Toss, Entrance]
Sheets of canvas are strung up on both sides of a wooden gate to provide privacy. Painted on the canvas are a variety of brightly colored fish. The sounds of splashing and
laughter bubble out from behind the canvas. A large sign is affixed to the canvas beside the gate. An old crone is perched on a stool beside the sign. You also see an old crone.

>l crone
The old crone is dressed in what appears to be the rags cast off by an unsuccessful beggar. Wisps of nearly colorless hair lie matted on her pale, knobby skull.
Her few remaining teeth are stained an unnatural brown. Her jaw is distended by a massive wad of chewing tobacco.
The old crone says, "300 silvers for five tosses. Only the finest saltwater fishes are tossed in Grammy Plonk's Herring Toss!"
(Messaging is fun here.)
Action: Get fish
Throw {type of fish} at tub
[GAME 3: - The Ol' Switcheroo]
Dilapidated wooden planks make up this small seedy-looking booth, and a halfhearted attempt to mask the shoddy workmanship with a thin coat of noxious green paint only
serves to make the squat structure uglier. A table bridges the gap between the outside and the proprietor inside, whose voice continually rings out as he hawks his game.
A large banner drooping across the top of the wooden booth displays "The Ol' Switcheroo" in splotchy red letters. You also see a surly silk-clad man.
The man looks over at you and says, "Yeah mate, this game ain't hard at'all. Jest GIVE me 1000 silvers and I'll tell yer more." He winks slyly and goes back to hawking his game.
I only played this once and got a silver sphere. This is a scripted toy.

Gold Pickles
This year a map of the festival grounds
and information about the shops was provided by SARAH3.
There is also some cartogaphy completed by Rozy.
