personal - GemStone IV WARRIOR INTERVIEWS q&A
I have been asked a number of questions about the interview process which
I now feels justifying a Q&A page. If your questions are not answered
here then please feel free to contact me.
WHO CAN BE INTERVIEWED?
01. Do I have to have been in the lands for years to be interviewed?
- No. The only criteria is that you are a warrior. The length of time in the lands is not important.
02. I'm not in the warrior guild yet. Are you interested in my interview?
- Not an issue. Although I would heartily encourage to join the guild when you can, this is not a criteria for being interviewed.
03. I haven't played for a while. Do you want my interview?
- Absolutely I want your interview. If you have past experiences that you can bring to the interview then all the better.
04. I'm sure I haven't got anything interesting to say. Why would you want to hear from me?
- It's amazing how many people think that they haven't got anything of interest to say. And yet they have interesting nuggets of information about their hunts, friends, good and bad days that make what they say VERY interesting. And remember there will be set questions to guide you.
05. I'm just starting out as a warrior.
- Great. Many of us may have forgotten what it's like to venture on the warrior path for the first time. You'll bring that insight!
06. I don't know any of the technical stuff about the game. Can I still participate?
- Join the club. If you want to talk about sitting, spitting and hitting then that more than good enough for the interview. Technical stuff makes my brain hurt!
THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
07. How is the interview conducted?
- Basically if you would like a 1-2-1 interview then we will find some comfy seat in an inn. I'll bring the ale! And i'll ask you some questions. Feel free to prepare in advance if you want. You can even bring your friends, partner(s) and colleagues too if you want. If however you feel more comfortable sending in a scroll of the interview responses then that is fine too.
08. What's better - submitting an interview or you doing a 1-2-1 with me?
- Six of one... half a dozen of the other! If you want more time to prepare or don't feel comfortable with 1-2-1 settings, then submitting the interview by scroll is for you. However with 1-2-1 interviews I will record all the little gestures made when answering the questions. At the end of the day, it's totally up to you.
09. Does the interview have to be in character or can I submit from the players perspective?
- An 'in character' submission is preferred. However either is acceptable. I will note next to the interview that it is out of character, where an OOC interview has been submitted. An interview is considered to be ooc where there is more than one significant ooc comment - e.g 1996 and not 5096;
10. How long does a 1-2-1 interview take?
- That depends on you and how much you have to say to be honest. And of course the more social the event the longer it may take. Give it a minimum of 15 minutes I think... that would be pushing it.
11. Can you come to me to do a 1-2-1 interview?
- I won't go to that Elven town I'm afraid, unless I desperately have to. But I'll go just about anywhere else if it's easier for me to come to you.
12. I'm often busy hunting. Can I book a time to be interviewed?
- Appointments are great. We can work something out if needed, so that your normal schedule is not interrupted too much.
INTERVIEW BY SCROLL ooc email
13. How long do I have to submit my interview if I want to do it by scroll?
- Submit whenever you like... today...tomorrow...next week...next year.... I am not going anywhere soon.
14. Do I have to submit my name?
- Absoloutely. It's about the only thing I do insist on. Sorry, no ananymous...anonemus... uhhh no submissions with no names. That kinda' defeats part of the purpose.
15. Do I have to answer all the questions?
- No you don't. However I will need to apply some common sense when publishing the interview. Answering ten questions with "no comment" or "I'm not sure" will hardly make for a good interview. If most questions result in a response then that is sufficient.

AFTER THE INTERVIEW
16. How long before my interview is published?
- I aim to publish all submitted interviews within three working days of the interview being undertaken or received
17. I submitted an interview but have not heard anything?
- If you submitted an interview to me but did not receive a response within three working days, then the chances are that I didn't receive it. Please resubmit.
18. What if I want to change my interview?
- Not a problem. Just let me know and I'll get on it!
19. Can I be interviewed again when I get older?
- Of course my fellow forearm basher! Your new interview will be linked to the old. However common sense will have to prevail here. Submitting a new interview after every visit to the trainer may be a tad excessive.
20. Can I remove my interview once it is submitted?
- Yes. Just let me know. However you will need to use the same (ooc) email address used to send the information. Consider this a safeguard against malicious requests for removal of your information.
21. Why haven't you submitted your own interview?
- Interviewing myself seemed a little narcissistic! However perhaps one of you would volunteer to interview me in the future... who knows?
GENERAL
22. Why are you carrying out warrior interviews?
- I remember when a distant relative of mine who began life as a locksmith in 5096. She was called Mxenna D'Clancy. She remembered the venerable locksmiths during her own youth, who would gather people around them on the Hearthstone Steps. However some are barely a memory. I wanted more than a memory for my fellow warriors. I wanted to ensure that in the year 5130 when someone said " Do you remember Tebon or Cryheart or the funny thing that happened to Frorin", that we can call upon more than vague memories from aging warriors. We will now have a point of reference for all time!
23. How long is this project going to last?
- For as long as this dwarf thrives... and I'm going nowhere!
24. Are you displaying anything confidential like email addresses?
- No confidential information will not be asked for or displayed. To do otherwise is actually contrary to this site's privacy policy.
26. Is there a prize for submissions.
- Ha-ha. Sorry no... I am sooo tempted to post who asked that question. But I won't of course!
27. What is the best race in the lands?
- Dwarven Race of course! Ok so that question has nothing to do with warrior interviews! Nevertheless, it had to be said!
