personal - GemStone IV interview with Brynsteel

Interview with Brynsteel

Interview held on Niiman, day 21 of the month Lormesta in the year 5110

QUESTIONS

1: What is your name (required) and training level (not essential)

Brynsteel, or more commonly, Bryn. Currently level 75..

2: How long have you wandered the lands?

Off and on, since 1996.

3: What hunting style do you opt for?

For tools, I am most proficient with the one handed edged and brawling varieties. I also specialize in an exclusive blunt weapon: the shield. It protects me as well as it offends those who meet it. Block, parry and evasion mastery, most definitely. Headbutt, shield bash, feint and bearhug to defend myself against other, less educated adventurers.

4: What percentage of your time do you spend hunting? How do you spend your other time?.

I prefer to be absorbing experience all of the time. I spend my time resting at the lair of the Order of the Dragon. My brothers and sisters rest there too, and we socialize while freely trading skills.

5: What is and/or was your most enjoyable hunting area and why?

If I had to pick one it would be the troll king area because after hunting there since I could wear plate to 65, I still scan the area for fleeing limbs when up in the Krag Slopes and the minotaurs' domain.

6: What do you enjoy most about your time in the lands?

The body part element to combat and the restrictions that injuries impose.

7: Is there anyone within the lands that you admire? (Any profession) Who and why?

There are many.
-Malliche, for talking me into getting back into GS while we were fishing, shortly before he left himself, swearing to never return until the monk profession was released. That promise has been upheld for almost two years.
-Tykeara, for keeping me interested in the game by introducing me to the, in my mind, most sophisticated, cultivated and mature group in the game. She is also the most dependably lost ranger and the best friend anyone could have in Elanthia.
-Cathlyn for showing incomprehensible compassion and forgiveness.
-Goldeath, who no matter what, makes any time a good time.
-Issey and Natori who I miss. Make your kids grow up faster, Kat!
-Artoriosdemer who is never too shy to deliver the funniest punchline of the night.
-Snowrok, who sleeps at the helm while the battle roars on.
-MIKE and his infinite personalities... come back soon.
-Brava, who lived in Panama and never logged onto GS again (at least on the same name) after the earthquake. We all hope you're well.
-Reddic, who is a good friend that never fails to provide or share freshly harvested ogre brains for a snack.
-Skizzle for being my first arch nemesis, and a fun one at that.

8: What has been your best moment in the lands so far?

Every time my friends are nearest is the next best moment.

9: What has been your worst moment in the lands so far?

Realizing that I could not put anything on the table in my own home.

10: What advice would you give to a new warrior?

Make friends. They are your best resource. More importantly, know a wizard and a cleric/empath. If you are near the same level he or she will benefit as much from you as you will from them. (I know this because I am also Auratik, the wizard.)

Train in magic item use up to 35 ranks. Assuming you have the connections, which you should try to get if not, you can have your magically skilled friends imbed things into cheap amulets, making you nearly unstoppable for the battles ahead. Also, using magic items to cast spells like ewave, quake or tremors, will give you an advantage on the field should you feel overwhelmed..

11: If you had to do it all again, knowing what you now know, would you do anything differently?

I would have never played to begin with because I can't quit.

12: Is there anything you want to add to this interview?

Crush skulls break bones!
