personal - GemStone IV interview with GUERAND

Interview with Guerand

Interview held on Day of the Huntress, day 22 of the month Lormesta in the year 5110

QUESTIONS

1: What is your name (required) and training level (not essential)

Guerand, 34th Train Warrior

2: How long have you wandered the lands?

Since 1996 or so, when GS first came to AOL.

3: What hunting style do you opt for?

I'm not sure how to answer this exactly, I go solo for the most part, but am always up for a party trying to do something. Big fan of Warcamps and was on the top ten board for Sunfists for quite sometime about a year ago.

4: What percentage of your time do you spend hunting? How do you spend your other time?.

I'm hunting centered for the most part...but I'll role play some, and participate in the guild some. Probably 60/20/20

5: What is and/or was your most enjoyable hunting area and why?

I like Darkstone....it's just a cool encounter, given I'm still pretty limited...I've only been around WL area and some Sol Haven. I just wish DS didn't steal spells.

6: What do you enjoy most about your time in the lands?

Well GS has just something about it, I don't know. I'm always amazed at the culture GS creates. Too bad it's dwindling. I like the feel of it, the uniqueness....I mean the role of most RPG games are to let you feel like your avatar. GS is the best at letting you customize that down to the T, from items to looks, etc.

7: Is there anyone within the lands that you admire? (Any profession) Who and why?

Hrmm....well Berr of course, the original Claidh warrior, I didn't really know him but I knew of him. That's what got me in to the whole warrior/claidh thing, I was a ranger at first. The whole claidhmore sect had me hooked, everything else is so standard and the same....claidhs go outside the rules kind of, they aren't like other weapons and their rarity was intriguing.

8: What has been your best moment in the lands so far?

REAL REAL early on when I didn't know anything, a group of us went adventuring in to Stronghold (where the arrow traps hit you)....and we didnt' know what we were doing, and we kind of read every room description etc. I still don't know stronghold but somehow I was captured by some NPC and put in a jail, and he took all my gear....including a mithril claidh. I forget what happened, but I never got that claidh back. It was a devastating outcome, but while we were there (several hours) looking around I remember being so in to it and thinking, this is what RPG should be.

Also, the first time I went to the enchanters workshop, where you pluck the berry on the bush and are shrunk down in to the workshop. Both of those experiences were very " This world has more to offer than I understand"....oh and also the first time I killed someone, for honor's sake :)

9: What has been your worst moment in the lands so far?

Losing my first mithril claidh, but i've had many since then. Retiring and selling my claidh collection thinking I was done with GS, I charity auctioned everything, then gave away the coin. MISTAKE, with inflation and such I'll never get back to my former glory equipment wise. I realize now, for me, that is the nature of GS...you wake up one day and go, this is done I don't want to do this anymore. A year will pass, and all of a sudden there is nothing you want to do more then get on the nets and get some gear and go hunting. I keep all my money/equip on my character now whenever I decide to call it quits. I've retired and come back at least 3 times.

10: What advice would you give to a new warrior?

Use 2handers (preferably claidhs)...get started on the guild asap and hit it hard, berserk is awesome.

11: If you had to do it all again, knowing what you now know, would you do anything differently?

Wouldn't have given my stuff away....my claidh collection being sold almost made me not come back....if I still had it I would be considerably happier.

12: Is there anything you want to add to this interview?

I have some warrior questions, about some of the recent changes, if you have any freetime via email.
