Digging in Feymist Cemetary [click picture to expand graphic]

SUMMARY

I decided this year to ignore sitting in queues for the most part and to spend time playing games. The two main games were digging in Feymist Cemetery and playing on the carousel.

DIGGING IN FEYMIST CEMETERY

Brief extract - cemetary and digging.

[Feymist Cemetery, Approach] Standing before the tall iron fencing is an old boarded-up hut. Some dried-out bramble sits in a heap, covering a pile of old shovels. A rusted-out iron gate leads north farther into the cemetery, and on the eastern side of the trail is a passage heading toward the Feywrot Mire. You also see a wooden barrel of iron shovels and a fur-covered goblin graverobber. Obvious paths: none

[Feymist Cemetery, Gated Entry]
Tall iron fencing, which is covered in bramble and dried-out vines, stands before the southern border of the cemetery. The only means to travel between the fencing is a rusted-out iron gate. Murky puddles of water have been filled into the recently dug holes, each puddle reeking of sewage. You also see a tanik block and a deep muck-filled hole.

[Feymist Cemetery, Willow Grove]
Surrounding a grassy knoll, a grove of black willow trees stretch high into the day sky. A large opening gapes at the base of the knoll, and a large cluster of exposed roots leads inside. Several granite slabs lie in a crumbled heap by one of the trees, possibly once gravestones that were destroyed by the willow's growth. The remains of a sword stick up amongst the debris. You also see a deep muck-filled hole.

[Feymist Cemetery, Fetid Sink]
The fetid odor that fills the air is visible as green wisps of smoke that pour out from the muck. It is difficult to find stable enough ground to stand on, as the mud engulfs everything in the area. To the north, a trio of torches burn cerulean blue flames and are affixed to the front wall of a sunken mausoleum. Enshrouding most of the mausoleum is a tangled mess of vines. You also see a grimy modwir trunk, a weathered pinecone, a dark cherry skeleton figure candy, a heavily rusted iron bell, a tattered dull black crow feather, the green Taverkin disk and a deep muck-filled hole.

DIGGING

>give grav 1000
As you give a fur-covered goblin graverobber 1000 silvers, he hands you back a long-handled rusted iron shovel.
>put shov in my pac

>get my shovel
You remove a long-handled rusted iron shovel from in your pack.

>dig
You begin to dig with your shovel, sinking into the muck and tossing it aside.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

You hit something hard in the muck, causing the shovel to break. You toss the broken shovel aside. You reach down and pull a marred maoral crate from the muck.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

r>open my crate
>get coins from my crate
You lift the lid on your maoral crate and set it aside.
You gather the remaining 174 coins from inside your maoral crate.

>look in my crate
In the maoral crate you see a bleached skull, a sunflower of brightly hued hyacinth and a moss-covered skull insignia. You try to empty the contents of your crate into your jacket, and everything falls in quite nicely. Roundtime: 3 sec. r>put my crate in hole

PLAYING ON THE CAROUSEL

Extract from a carousel ride

You turn the key on the bottom of your painted tin carousel and set it on your open palm. A haunting, echoing melody reminiscent of a carnival midway tinkles forth from your painted tin carousel. As the central platform slowly begins to turn, the tiny painted menagerie begins to bob up and down.

Wyvern! Peacock! Otter! The tiny creatures whiz by as the miniature carousel spins. You find yourself engrossed in the details of the designs, unable to tear your eyes away. Rabbit! Kraken! Mule! You examine the intricate painting, the cleverly inset gems, and the neatly incised carving. A black horse pierced by a golden pole suddenly rears up, turns its head, and gazes right at you.

Suddenly, a loud bell snaps you out of your daze. You look around and find yourself perched atop a faded fan-tailed peacock on a slowly revolving carousel. The music of your painted tin carousel fades, replaced by the louder yet equally eerie melody floating through the air.

[Halfway Midway, Carousel]
A scalloped wooden overhang encloses a dingy white ceiling whorled with gold flourishes accented by hints of color. From somewhere within the central column of the carousel, a tinny, off-key melody filters into the air, while the column's exterior is decorated with scenes of carnival games, booths, and a variety of fantastical creatures. Overhead, strings of glass-globed lights span out like spokes from the center of the carousel, shedding an amber light onto the bobbing wooden carousel creatures below. You also see a buffed iron carousel-motif ring, a strip of pale red cotton, a slender cobalt blue mithril longsword inlaid with jade runes, a deringo block, a narrow gold carousel-motif ring, a shiny brass carousel-motif ring, a cracked axe haft and a lanky half-elven boy holding some game tickets.

Obvious paths: northeast, northwest, out

Farseeker reaches away from his carousel animal and grabs for the ring dispenser!
Urich connects with the rings and comes away with a rainbow glaes ring!

The haunting melody of the carousel wafts through the air as you bob up and down on your fan-tailed peacock.

A lanky half-elven child heads over to Inurtia and speaks with her briefly before handing her a two-headed silver rolton coin.

Inurtia reaches away from her carousel animal and grabs for the ring dispenser!

Farseeker reaches away from his carousel animal and grabs for the ring dispenser!

A lanky half-elven child heads over to Urich and speaks with him briefly before handing him a pale pink coral-backed mirror.

You climb on top of an argent-maned black nightmare steed.

>take ticket
You motion to the game tickets and a lanky half-elven child approaches you, holding out a hand and demanding 500 silver.
You hand over the coins.
You gird yourself as the ring dispenser comes into view. As you near the arm, a lanky half-elven child swings it toward you. Releasing your grasp on your carousel animal, you make your grab!
Roundtime: 15 sec.

You miss the rings by several feet! In the process, you lose your balance and go tumbling off your black nightmare steed!

Since you fell off your carousel animal, you bet you don't get a prize. And you win that bet!

You climb on top of an argent-maned black nightmare steed.

>take tic

You motion to the game tickets and a lanky half-elven child approaches you, holding out a hand and demanding 500 silver.

You hand over the coins.
You gird yourself as the ring dispenser comes into view. As you near the arm, a lanky half-elven child swings it toward you. Releasing your grasp on your carousel animal, you make your grab!
Roundtime: 15 sec.
Your fingers grace the rings and you manage to pull a brown zircon ring loose!

A lanky half-elven child darts between the carousel animals and takes the ring from you. After a brief examination, he pockets the ring and exclaims, "Great job, mate!" He nods to another lanky boy who is standing just off the carousel, who tosses him a jar of teeth which is then presented to you.
